Doing Something Completely Different

Have you ever wanted to do something completely different? I always have.

I started my working life as an RAF Kennel Maid. I absolutely love animals, and dogs in particular. I’m the kind of person that will say hello to dogs on the street!

On leaving the RAF, I worked at UPS as a part-time data entry clerk for 10 years.  I then started working full-time at my local hospital. I progressed over the years to manager level, and remain there as a part-time Data Quality project manager.

Over the years I have tried my hand at various creative outlets. My Grandma was a creative, and very talented knitter, and was also very good at sewing. I loved visiting her as it usually meant we would be making something.

I studied art at school, and I wish I’d been aware then that there was a career in being creative.

In 2018 I found soap school (yes it exists) in Huddersfield. I did a few months of research into the processes and signed up for a course. I’ve now added lotions and shampoo bars to my collection. I haven’t looked back.

Making my products is a real change of pace from my busy professional career, and gives me a great outlet. Here, in my little slice of Yorkshire heaven, I have created something that gives me enormous satisfaction. I use the same high standards and attention to detail in both areas of my life.

I’ve met some amazingly talented people along the way. I love attending markets and meeting customers. My husband gets involved in markets too, and it’s great to share this journey with my best friend.

I’m totally committed to sourcing only the most gentle of ingredients and eco-friendly packaging. This is why I strive to make everything as gentle as possible.

In conclusion, what I’m trying to say is although we all have bills to pay, if you can find something that full fills you, its like medicine for the soul. It doesn’t matter what it is, if its your thing and makes you happy, do it!
